History: The chicken breed Ameraucana was developed in the United States. They were bred from Easter Eggers (originating from a combination of the native South American Araucauna and Old World varieties). True Ameraucanas are a rarity. Simply put, most Easter Eggers are mutts that coincidentally carry the blue egg gene.
