History: Only purebred chicken in the US developed by a woman, Nettie Metcalf, originating from Warren, Ohio (the Buckeye state). She intended to create a breed that could be productive through harsh Midwest winters.
Additional Notes: Resemble the Rhode Island Red breed, particularly the hens, except Buckeyes have a line of gray on the back feathers to distinguish them.
